So the men’s 4x100m relay final is about to be run, and once again the UK team aren’t there because we can’t get the baton round cleanly.
I remember Athens in 2004 when we won. The US had all the superstars, and we didn’t have anyone in particular. But that year we concentrated on the handovers, making the baton passing as slick as possible. The US had some poor changes, the GB team had three incredible handovers, and the US couldn’t quite catch us on the line.
Since then, our handovers have been wrong, and we’ve not even made the final. It’s one place where you really don’t want to think outside the box…
